Four Tracks, Inc. Four Tracks, Inc., the reindeer operation of Woodland Farms, was established in 1996 with the acquisition of 13 reindeer from a free-ranging herd in White Mountain. The following year we purchased an additional 50 fawns from a herder in Nome, Alaska. Today our herd numbers approximately 70 adult animals and 30 to 40 fawns born each spring. We work very closely with the reindeer research program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Our herd has been tested for brucellosis and tuberculosis and is disease free. We sell display animals to zoos, petting parks, tourist operations, Santa Claus operations, and other breeders. Reindeer produce a healthy, no fat, no cholesterol red meat. Each year a limited number of animals are harvested for this purpose. We also produce tanned hides, some with hair on and some as garment leather. Reindeer and their first-cousins, caribou, are the only members of the deer family where both males and females produce antlers every year. We harvest velvet antler for the health food market and hard (calcified) antler, which we use to make a variety of products including earrings, buttons, back scratchers, cribbage boards, chandeliers, and clothing racks. Members of Reindeer Owners and Breeders Association (ROBA).
